Student Sound Offs

"It is a combination of academics and concept driven, hands-on art and design. Both intellectually stimulating and extremely rewarding creatively."

"Since we're taught by faculty who are artists themselves, they know the particularity of the struggle to make art, as well as what we're up against in choosing it as a lifestyle. What they have to teach us truly prepares us for this - good and bad."

"It feels like an open forum. We're given walls to draw on and express anything we desire, opinions fly around, discussion happens in the very hallway between studios - the sense of freedom and lack of restriction makes the school in general feel very intellectual without being pretentious."

"Everyone is an artist. Everyone is unique ... We all love art, and we all have opinions. We're not afraid to be different, and express ourselves."

"Now that it is becoming a university our studio time is decreasing every year in order to accommodate the mandatory liberal studies. This leaves us with ... less studio time overall."

"The school spirit some what lacks, there are nearly no clubs, sports groups, residences or events. Not all of us are the stereotypical 'art students' and I feel that the school has pigeon holed us this way somewhat."

"Our school is so small it's like a high school, we don't have a medical service or a gym... Our library is very small, very often our prof tells us, 'Go to the library of UofT or Ryerson or York, they have more references.' "

"It's right downtown so you're not stuck at some depressing campus, like York. There are lots of things to see and do either after class or in between classes."

"Always art shows in the hall spaces, very inspiring and helps us see what other departments and programs are doing."

"Students tend to dress up out of the ordinary -- bright pink shoes, yellow socks, torn stockings, real handcuffs as a belt, multi-coloured hair..."
