College Programs: A Select Guide
Communication Design
Communication Design focuses on developing comprehensible design of messages and experiences. Although the program places emphasis on 2D design concerns — in print or on screen — it allows for students to investigate overlapping areas in 3D as well.
Industrial Design
Industrial Design focuses on developing design by applying a user-centered methodology. The program places particular emphasis on sustainable design and design in support of local entrepreneurship, healthy living, and interactive environments.
Animation
Animation majors work within experimental, commercial and computer animation streams in a carefully integrated program designed to produce well-rounded animators. Graduates work in entertainment, advertising and communications, as well as on independent animation productions.
Film, Video + Integrated Media Major
Film, Video + Integrated Media combines a variety of media areas including film, video, installation, performance, sound, interactive digital media and digital visual arts. The program offers a vibrant combination of studio work, technical instruction, history, theory, critical analysis and professional practices. Students either specialize in one particular media or choose to work in hybrid forms.
Photography Major
Photography offers a strong emphasis on conceptual, technical and historical knowledge, preparing students to become innovative photographers within contemporary culture. Curriculum covers a wide range of cameras, black and white and colour processes, archival fine art printing, digital output, installations and projected imagery.
Visual Arts Major
Visual Arts offers a studio-based education that reflects the diversity and complexity of contemporary art practices. Students choose from a variety of courses in ceramics, drawing, painting, print media, photography, sculpture and digital visual arts.
